our philosophy

STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
ELMWOOD PRESCHOOL

Here at Elmwood Preschool the management and staff believe that the rights of the child are paramount.  Teamwork and co-operation between all those important to the child is vital, therefore relationships between educators, children, whanau/family and management are valued and respected.
The environment we provide ensures children are physically safe and secure and they have opportunities to learn through play, routines and curriculum experiences. Educators’ support children in becoming competent, capable learners, acknowledging they have the confidence and ability to lead their own learning.   A combination of both child initiated and teacher led experiences are implemented and recognised as valuable ways of learning.
We recognise and value the cultural multiplicity of our preschool community and we endeavour to meet the individual needs of each child, respecting his/her unique cultural diversity.
We believe in the importance of environmental sustainability and will endeavour to implement sustainable practices in all we do.
Management, educators, children, parents/whanau and community work together for the holistic development of each individual child.
